KARNS CITY — The Karns City football team will square off against Chestnut Ridge (6-5) in the first round of the PIAA Class AA Championships at 7 p.m. on Friday at Clarion University.
The Gremlins (9-3), coming off a come-from-behind 33-27 win over Kane in the District 9 championship. Chestnut Ridge defeated Everett 22-21 in the District 5 title game on Nov. 9 and did not play last week.
JOPLIN, Mo. — Slippery Rock University senior Stephanie Case finished 64th out of 249 runners in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships Saturday at Missouri Southern State University.Case covered the 6,000-meter course in 21 minutes, 47 seconds. She was The Rock’s lone runner in the meet and was SRU’s top runner in every cross country race this season.
MONTREAL — Ricky Ray threw for 399 yards and the Toronto Argonauts beat the Montreal Alouettes 27-20 on Sunday in the CFL East Division final.The Argonauts, coached by Butler grad Scott Milanovich, reached the CFL championship game for the first time since 2004, when they won their 15th Grey Cup with a victory over B.C. They will face West Division champion Calgary next Sunday at Rogers Centre, Toronto's home field.
HOUSTON — Houston's Andre Johnson and Jacksonville's Justin Blackmon both had more than 200 yards receiving Sunday, marking the first time two players reached that mark in a single game.Johnson had 14 receptions for 273 yards, both career highs. Blackmon, a rookie, had seven receptions for 236 yards, also career highs.
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin running back Montee Ball has tied the major college career touchdown record, scoring on a 7-yard run against No. 6 Ohio State on Saturday.It was the 78th touchdown of Ball's career, matching the mark set by Travis Prentice of Miami (Ohio) in 1999. Ball already has a share of the FBS single-season touchdown record, matching Barry Sanders' long-standing mark of 39 last year.
