HOUSTON — Safety Ed Reed could play when the Texans open the season at San Diego on Monday night after returning to practice this week as he recovers from hip surgery.

Auriemma coaching U.S. women's team

Geno Auriemma will return to coach the U.S. women's basketball team at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press.

USA Basketball will discuss the move at a news conference Friday in Connecticut. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday because the appointment of the Connecticut coach has not been announced.

MILWAUKEE — A restaurant group is ending its ties with suspended Brewers slugger Ryan Braun.SURG Restaurant Group said in a statement Thursday it will change the name of the 8-Twelve MVP Bar & Grill in the Milwaukee suburb of Brookfield. “Eight” is Braun's jersey number, while “twelve” refers to the number worn by quarterback Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers.Major League Baseball suspended Braun for the rest of the season in July for doping. Braun and Rodgers were friends and business associates.

PHOENIX — A 17-year-old national champion boxer died after being found severely beaten in his family’s south Phoenix home and police are investigating the case as a homicide.Authorities say Alexis Urbina died of his injuries Thursday at a hospital.Phoenix police said the teen was found unconscious and covered in blood in the family’s living room about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
