ERIE — A man is hospitalized after falling about 30 feet from a cliff into Lake Erie, apparently while trying to find a spot to watch fireworks that capped the city's CelebrateErie festival.

Erie authorities have yet to release the name of the man who was seen falling off the cliff about 9:45 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses saw the man approach the edge of the cliff followed by a woman with a flashlight when the man fell into the lake.

Erie Deputy Fire Chief Marty Heid says the man was unconscious when he was pulled from the water and taken to Hamot Medical Center. His condition and identity were not immediately available Monday.

PITTSBURGH — Administrators of Pittsburgh Public Schools are recommending that the district close all 66 schools during next month's Group of 20 economic summit.Superintendent Mark Roosevelt said Monday in a written statement that officials are worried about transportation problems if the schools remain open during the Sept. 24-25 summit at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.The school board is scheduled to vote on the proposal at a meeting Wednesday night.
