Price tag for city parking garage at $4.6M
Butler’s proposed parking garage will cost a little more than what was projected.
The estimated cost of the 239-space garage will be at least $4.6 million, based on the bids received June 10.
That cost could raise to about $5 million if council elects to include an elevator and brick piers — two alternative designs included in the bid package.
The city had originally projected the structure to cost $4.1 million to $4.4 million.
Joe Gray of Gateway Engineers updated council at its meeting Tuesday night on the status of the project.
Gateway Engineers is reviewing the bids to make sure they meet the technical requirements the city is seeking for the project. The bids are expected to be awarded next month.
Gray said an elevator would add about another $250,000 to the estimated base price. Adding brick work to the steel piers, a mainly cosmetic move, would cost about $140,000.
“It’s a little over, but I’m happy with it,” said Mayor Tom Donaldson. “We ended up with a few extra spaces than we first planned.”
