BUFFALO TWP — Lernerville Speedway has posted its schedule for the 2013 season.

The season begins April 14 with the makeup date for the fourth annual Steel City Stampede, rained out last year. A test and tune practice session will be held April 13 for drivers of any division, regardless of participation in the Stampede.

Fab Four racing begins April 19. The All-Star Sprints will run May 10, the Firecracker 100 runs June 27-29, Don Martin Memorial World of Outlaws Sprint Show July 16, the WoO Commonwealth Clash Sept. 21.

Big 12 seeking football title gameSTILLWATER, Okla. — Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby says the league likely will seek permission from the NCAA to hold a championship game even though it doesn’t have the 12 members required under the current rules.Down to 10 members after the departure of Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri and Texas A&M in recent years, the Big 12 was forced to do without a championship game the last two seasons. Kansas State and Oklahoma tied for the championship with matching 8-1 records in conference play last season, and the Wildcats earned the automatic BCS berth after winning the head-to-head matchup.Oklahoma got left out of the BCS when Northern Illinois made a late charge up the standings.

Steelers tap Smith for special teamsPITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have hired Danny Smith as their special teams coach.A Central Catholic graduate and Pittsburgh native, Smith, 59, served as special teams coach with the Washington Redskins last season.He has also served in that capacity with three other NFL teams.

Grizzlies deal Gay to Toronto RaptorsRudy Gay is on his way to Toronto in the latest and most dramatic move in the Memphis Grizzlies’ money-motivated makeover.The Grizzlies agreed to trade their star swingman to the Raptors on Wednesday, parting with the leading scorer on a team that has aspirations of making a run in the powerful Western Conference.The Raptors gave up point guard Jose Calderon and forward Ed Davis in the deal that also included Grizzlies backup center Hamed Haddadi.
