Man who broke jaw of former friend gets probation

Austin Reges

A Butler man was sentenced to probation in Butler County Court Thursday, after being charged with breaking another man's jaw.

Austin J. Reges, 24, was sentenced to 2 years' probation by Judge William Shaffer. He was also ordered to pay court costs and $200 in fines.

He previously pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct on Jan. 17.

Reges was initially charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment after an incident on Eau Claire Road March 3.

The second disorderly conduct charge to which he pleaded was later added. The remaining charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

State police filed the charges after a reported fight between Reges and his former friend, David Hindman of Venango Township, after Reges accused Hindman of cheating with Reges' girlfriend, according to court documents.

Hindman said when he turned away, Reges punched him in the back of the jaw. Reges wanted to fight more, police said, but the badly injured Hindman fled.

Hindman's jaw needed to be wired shut after receiving treatment at more than one hospital for his facial injury, police said.
