Christmas tree recycling

Several locations will be recycling cut Christmas trees after the holidays. All locations require the trees to be without any decorations or any plastic bags used to transport the trees.

Back to Nature at 840 Mercer Road in Butler will accept trees, as well as other yard waste for a small fee. Tree pickup service will be available for a fee depending on mileage through Jan. 31.

Cranberry Township curbside collection will be available for Cranberry residents at no cost for the first two weeks in January, with a $4 per tree fee afterward. Trees taller than six feet must be cut into four-foot sections. Call 724-COLLECT or 724-265-5328 for more details.

The Lions Club will pick up trees curbside in Zelienople and Harmony from 9 a.m. to noon on Jan. 14. Trees must be placed curbside the night before. There will be no return pickups if missed.

Penn Township will accept trees for free at the its road department at 105 Township Lane, Butler, and the Penn Township Fire Department at 311 Airport Road, Butler. Call 724-285-9317 for more information.

The Seneca Landfill at 421 Hartmann Road in Evans City will accept trees for $5 each through Jan. 31. Ask directions at the scale house when you enter the site. Call 724-625-9000 for more information.

The Slippery Rock Community Park at 320 N. Main St. in Slippery Rock will accept trees for free through January 7. Call 724-794-8180 for more information.

Other communities may have a curbside pickup program for their residents. For more information, contact your community’s municipal building.
