Butler school district approves energy contract

BUTLER TWP — The Butler Area School district board approved a .02-cent increase its electrical energy contract Monday night.

According to superintendent Brian White, the district’s electrical contract with Direct Energy ends at the end of this month. The two-year period agreement has the district paying $0.047 per kilowatt hour.

The board last week directed White to seek the best possible rate to lock into as soon as possible, and approved the four-year contract costing $0.078 per kilowatt hour presented by Direct Energy.

White and director of finance and operations Heather Bonzo said rates have risen up to as high as $0.09344 per kilowatt hour, but the district could lock into a contract for a certain time period to get a lower rate.

The board also approved changes to the district’s standard transportation mileage reimbursement agreement, which White said is used yearly by parents who have to transport students with special needs to and from school.

The next school board meeting is Nov. 14.
