Rosters are beginning to gather no Randy Moss
PHILADELPHIA — The commissioner nearly dropped his beverage when the name came up on the transactions list.
One of the owners in our eight-team league was making a drop/add request and doing more than filling a bye-week void. The move made a simple, yet powerful statement: drop Randy Moss, pick up Marques Colston.
The days of Randy Moss as an elite wide receiver have passed. Gone are those double-digit touchdown and triple-digit catch seasons. In three games this year, Moss has seven catches and 84 receiving yards. Though it went for a touchdown, Moss had just one catch last week against Cleveland. That's unacceptable, another Moss owner says, considering the matchup against the lowly Browns.
"I drafted him in the third round as my first wide receiver," said Jim DePasquale, of the Camden County-based "Fly Eagles Fly" league.
"I'm going to bench him because (second-string quarterback) Andrew Walter is not going to help the situation anytime soon and I am not sure if (injured starter) Aaron Brooks will do much more. Oakland might be the worst team in football, which is not always bad for fantasy if your wide receiver can get junk yards when they are losing, but Moss isn't even getting those."
Just as troubling as his lack of production is that Moss, who has a history of petulance, seems to be getting ornery again. He told FOX Sports Radio earlier this week that he's not concerned about the Raiders' 0-3 start because "it doesn't seem like nobody else is concerned."
Wrong, Randy. There are millions of fantasy owners who are concerned. Although there is one fewer, thanks to the guy who dropped you in our league.
Quote of the Week
Eagles fans needn't worry whether linebacker Shawn Barber's fantasy interests would ever get in the way of his play.
"Fantasy league ain't payin' no bills," Barber told reporters, including the Philadelphia Daily News' Les Bowen. "I got kids to feed."

• Pick up Matt Leinart, but don't play him yet. The Cardinals are turning to their rookie quarterback, but have difficult matchups on the horizon (vs. Kansas City, Chicago). After that, though, Arizona is at Oakland and Green Bay.• With Leinart starting, the Chiefs' defense is worth considering as a bye-week fill-in.• Play Cowboys running back Julius Jones. If Green Bay's Vernand Morency can put up 99 yards against the Eagles in a blowout loss, Jones should be productive in a game that figures to be more competitive.• Give Frank Gore one more chance. The Daily News jinx is in full effect with Gore, the 49ers running back — for now. Ever since we proclaimed him a top sleeper, Gore has posted games of 52 and 65 yards respectively, hasn't cracked the end zone and has developed fumblitis. San Fran hosts the dreadful Raiders on Sunday.• Get Fred Taylor into your lineup. Don't sweat the Maurice Jones-Drew speculation. Taylor is Jacksonville's starting running back and should have a good game against the visiting Jets, who are struggling against the run as they get used to their new 3-4 defense.• Please tell Warrick Dunn it's OK to get into the end zone. The Falcons running back is third in the league in rushing but his next touchdown will be his first.• Unless your league requires three starting wide receivers, hold off picking up Detroit's Mike Furrey.• If you're on the fence about starting Bills running back Willis McGahee at Chicago, please note that Buffalo guard Chris Villarrial probably won't play because of an ankle injury.• Keep an eye on Ben Roethlisberger. While Sunday at San Diego isn't a good matchup for him, he did get some much-needed work in with the Steelers' receivers during the bye week and could emerge as a platoon option.
All you need to know about Terrell Owens' star power is that he is the first player to be the focus of two fantasy football contests in the same season. Quite an honor.Similar to our Week 1 contest, how many receiving yards will Owens rack up Sunday in his return to Lincoln Financial Field? In the three games he's played this season, Owens has had 80, 19 and 88 receiving yards respectively. The reader who comes closest to his receiving yards will win a Daily News fantasy football T-shirt. The tiebreakers will be how many receptions followed by how many touchdowns he scores. If there's still a tie, one winner will be chosen at random.E-mail your guess to fantasyfootball@phillynews.com by 3 p.m. Sunday. Be sure to include your name and hometown.
