Judith “Judy” M. (LaRoy) Wright, 88, of New Sewickley passed away Friday while under the care of the VNA Hospice in Butler.

Born July 12, 1924, in Sewickley, she was the daughter of the late Frank A. and Ethel C. (Cook) LaRoy.

Judy was a proud graduate of Sewickley High School, Class of 1942. She attended nursing school at the Shadyside School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1945 as a registered nurse.

Judy was a devoted nurse for over 45 years working at the D.T. Watson Rehabilitation Hospital in Sewickley, where she was known as “Mom Wright.” Judy had the pleasure of working with Dr. Jonas Salk, who developed the first successful vaccine against polio in the 1950s. Judy also was on the television show “That's Incredible” in 1983, discussing the new lymphedema pump, which came to be known as the Wright Linear Pump.

She enjoyed sewing, crochet, reading, fishing and crosswords, but above all, spending time with her family.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her two daughters, Judy Burke of Erie and Jo Ann (Tyrone) Albright of New Sewickley; four grandchildren, Robert James (Amy Grzywinski) Burke, Thomas Alan Burke, T.J. (Melissa) Albright and Emma Rae (Braden) Blauser; her loving family friend, Stacie Valencia; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 25 years, Robert James Wright, who passed away on Nov. 4, 1971; and her two dear sisters.

WRIGHT — A celebration of life service for Judith “Judy” M. (LaRoy) Wright, who died Friday, March 8, 2013, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 219 E.
