3 hurt in head-on collision
PENN TWP — A head-on collision on Dinnerbell Road sent two adults and one child to hospitals in Pittsburgh, according to fire officials.
The accident occurred at 3:51 p.m. Friday, according to 911 dispatchers. The wreck occurred just to the east of Dinnerbell Road's intersection with Rockdale Road. Two vehicles were involved.
The two adults driving the vehicles were flown to trauma centers in Pittsburgh, according to Chief Chris Ballina of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department.
The westbound vehicle driver, a woman, appeared to have more severe injuries, he said. Ballina said the woman's legs appeared to suffer severe injuries. Her vehicle appeared to be the more damaged of the two.
Rescuing the woman from her vehicle took nearly half-an-hour due to the vehicle's damages.
Ballina wasn't sure of the extent or nature of the man's injuries.
The two adults were taken from the scene by ambulances to a location where a helicopter could pick them up.
The child, a boy, was a passenger in the westbound vehicle and was taken to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh by ambulance, the chief said.
A woman, who lives on Dinnerbell Road right next to the accident, provided footage of the wreck to police. She has a security camera on her front porch facing out toward the road.
The footage appeared to show the eastbound vehicle, driven by the man, crossing fully into the oncoming lane and colliding with the other car.
State police, Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service were among those responding to the accident.
Both lanes of traffic were closed for over an hour as authorities cleared the scene.
State police declined to release the names of those involved Friday night.
