Butler Downtown awarded its third grant of the year for facade improvements Thursday.

The organization approved a $5,000 grant to Miller’s Quality Meats for its smokehouse on West North Street.

Chelynne Curci, the Main Street manager for Butler Downtown, said the money will help renovate the appearance of the building.

“It’s mostly for painting the building and repairing the roof line,” she said.

The money is a matching grant, meaning the property owner must contribute equal funding to the work being done.

Butler Downtown received $65,000 this year from the state, with $30,000 of that for facade improvements. The remaining money goes for operations costs, including the manager’s salary.

While $30,000 is limited to facade work, Curci said the organization can award the money how it chooses. She said Butler Downtown has set a limit of $5,000 for any property, which means six properties can be chosen in a year.

Corner shops are eligible for an additional $2,500 because of the extra side to maintain.

Miller’s Quality Meats is the third business to receive a grant this year.

Dittman Eyecare, on the corner of Main Street and West North Street, was approved for a $7,500 grant at the beginning of the year.

A property on West New Castle Street owned by Joe Gray was approved for a $5,000 grant in June.
