Spurk

Robert L. Spurk Sr., 81, of Callery died Friday morning at the Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford.

Born in Callery on Nov. 18, 1930, he was the son of the late Lawrence J. and Anna Laurie Wiley Spurk.

A lifelong dairy farmer on the family farm, Spurk Dairy Farm, he belonged to various Butler County and Pennsylvania farming associations. Farming, animals and the outdoors were his life.

He was a member of the Crestview Community Presbyterian Church and was a life member of the Callery Volunteer Fire Company.

Surviving are two daughters, Debra Spurk of Callery and Barbara Downie and her husband, Robert, of Callery; one son, Edward C. Spurk, Sr., and his wife, Gretchen, of Bear Lake, Pa. He was the grandfather of Stacy, Shawna, Edward Jr., Tanya, Jason, Justin, Mindy, Andrew and Melissa; the great-grandfather of Jarred, Blake, Landon, Lucian, Ashton, Tiarra, Jaidalyn, Bryonna and Marlin; and the brother of Ann Kemery (Paul) of Connoquenessing and Irene Jones (Joe) of Petrolia. He also is survived by nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley A. McKinney Spurk, who he married on June 20, 1952, and who died on March 11, 1999; one son, Robert L. Spurk Jr.; one grandson, Robert Spurk III.; and his brothers, James, William, Charles and John Spurk.

SPURK — Friends of Robert L. Spurk Sr., who died Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Goosen and the Rev. Norb LeVesque officiating. Burial will be in Evans City Cemetery.
