William V. 'Bill' Rodgers
William V. “Bill” Rodgers, 72, of East Drive, Chicora, died Monday morning at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler following an extended illness.
Born on Jan. 17, 1940, in Millerstown, now Chicora, Bill was the son of the late Victor and Martha Allene Hilliard Rodgers.
He was a 1957 graduate of Chicora High School. Following graduation, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1957 to 1963.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sandra Jeanne (McKinney) Rodgers. They were married on June 24, 1961, in Winchester, Va.
Bill was employed by Armco, Butler Works in 1959 and retired in 1987 following 28 years of service. Bill also enjoyed working as a contractor, constructing several homes in the Chicora area.
Bill was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora, the American Legion Post 488 of Bradys Bend, the Sons of Italy 1484 of Bradys Bend and the Moose Lodge of Chicora. He enjoyed vacationing at Myrtle Beach with his family and hunting big game in Colorado, Wyoming and Canada.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by three children, Randy William Rodgers and his wife, Lisa, of Cranberry, John Eric Rodgers and his wife, Kathy, of Chicora and Susan Jean Raabe, and her husband, William, of Butler; six grandchildren, Michael McConnell, Matthew McConnell, Kurtis Rodgers, Makayla Rodgers and Casey Rodgers, all of Chicora, and Brandon Rodgers of Frostburg, Md.; five siblings, Carole Francis of Chicora, Tom Rodgers and his wife, Sandra, of Bruin, Eleanor “Jo” Buzard and her husband, James, of Erie, Frederick Rodgers and his wife, Carolyn, of Chicora and Karen Patricia Maust of Butler; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Neil Daniel Rodgers, who died on Feb. 11, 1992.
RODGERS — Friends of William V. “Bill” Rodgers, who died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.A memorial service will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chicora, officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Bantam Marine Detachment 743 of the Marine Corps League of Butler.
