Marilyn 'Mimi' Rider
Marilyn Burdick “Mimi” Rider, 92, a longtime resident of Meridian passed away at noon Tuesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.
She was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Hilliards to the late Fred Burdick and Velma (McCune) Burdick.
Mrs. Rider was a graduate of Concord High School, then went on to earn a bachelor's degree in education from Slippery Rock State Teacher's College and also received a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
She worked as an elementary teacher in the Butler Public Schools in the Butler Community for 31 years, retiring in 1985.
Mrs. Rider was a member of the Meridian United Presbyterian Church, the Butler Literary Club, the Alpha Sigma Education Society and the League of Women Voters.
Mrs. Rider is survived by her one son, David Rider and his wife, Sherry, of Bloomsburg, Pa.; one daughter, Leslie Miller and her husband, Roger, of Maumee, Ohio; six grandchildren, Chris Rider and his wife, Eileen, Andrew Rider and his wife, Janelle, Jessica Rider-Amin and her husband, Nafeez, Paige Wietelmann and her husband, Jon, Steve Miller and his wife, Wendy, and Sarah Miller; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Diane Kosick and her husband, Regis, of Boyers; two sister-in-laws, Patricia Burdick and Peggy Rider; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Eugene Rider, who she married March 16, 1944, and who passed away April 17, 1989; one brother, William Burdick; and three sisters, Virginia Christy, Vivian DeSantis and Ruth Ann Dietz.
RIDER — Friends of Marilyn Burdick “Mimi” Rider, who died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Roger Miller, son-in-law of the deceased and the retired reverend of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Maumee, Ohio, officiating.
