Marmon leader will retire
Norman Gottschalk Jr., president of Marmon Distribution Services in Butler, will retire effective Jan. 31, 2014.
Vice President Alan Wilkinson has been picked as his successor to lead the company that has 1,100 workers.
Gottschalk, who has worked for the company for 45 years, said in a news release, “I have been very fortunate to head a strong, successful company like Marmon Distribution Services. It has been fun to watch Marmon/Keystone and its affiliate companies mature and grow over the years.”
In 1968, Gottschalk Jr. joined Keystone Tubular Service, later renamed Marmon/Keystone, as an accountant. He then was accounting supervisor, assistant controller and controller.
In 1984, he was promoted to vice president/controller of Marmon/Keystone. Gottschalk Jr. was chosen to lead the company in 1989 as president, a position he held until being named president of Marmon Distribution Services in 2012.
Gottschalk Jr. has served on many metals industry boards through the Metal Service Center Institute and the National Association of Steel Pipe Distributors, and he is a past chairman of the institute.
In 1999 he was named Metal Center News' Service Center Executive of the Year.
His alma mater, Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, presented Gottschalk Jr. with the school's Alumni Heritage Award for distinguished service in 2012.
He and his wife, Patricia, live in Fox Chapel. They have three children and seven grandchildren.
Wilkinson began working for Marmon/Keystone in 1978, holding a variety of positions including warehouse person, clerk, inside and outside sales, operations manager, branch manager and regional manager. In 1999, Wilkinson was named regional vice president of Marmon/Keystone, according to the news release.
He was promoted to vice president of Marmon Distribution Services in 2012.Wilkinson graduated from Mercer University in Macon, Ga., and has completed Metal Service Center Institute's Strategic Metals Management program.He is on the institute's board of directors.Wilkinson and his wife, Jean, live in Cranberry Township and have three children and one grandchild.Marmon Distribution Services is a supplier of specialty metal pipe, tubing, bar and sheet products to the construction, industrial and aerospace markets, among other industries.The company encompasses Marmon/Keystone LLC, Marmon/Keystone Canada, Marmon/Keystone de Mexico S.A. de C.V., Bushwick Metals LLC, Future Metals LLC and the M/K Express Co. LLC. These businesses have more than 60 sales and service centers in North America, Europe and Asia.
