Alice Catherine Lyon
Alice Catherine Lyon, 65, of Mercer, passed away Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. in Franklin after an extended illness surrounded by her family.
Alice was born Dec. 27, 1951, in Pittsburgh, to James and Margaret McGarvey Sommers.
She married Michael Lyon on Dec. 16, 1983. Alice was a financial-aid officer at various local vocational technical schools and was a member at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Mercer.
Alice is survived by her husband at home; one daughter, Melissa, wife of Korry Callihan, of Slippery Rock; and one son, Tim Lyon of Beaver Falls.
Also surviving are one sister, Helen “Peachie” Forsmark in McKees Rocks; four brothers, James Sommers in San Diego, Calif., Bill Sommers and his wife, Beverly, of Slippery Rock, Eddie Sommers and his wife, Bette, of Harrisville and Tom Sommers in Portersville; and four grandchildren, MaKenzie and Austin Callihan and Grace and Aly Lyon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Peggy Cokus; three brothers, John, Patrick and Larry Sommers; and one grandson, Conor James Harnett.
LYON — Visitation for Alice Catherine Lyon, who died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 144 S. Pitt St., Mercer.Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 100 Penn Ave., Mercer, with the Very Rev. Matthew Kujawinski V.F. officiating. Burial will be at Mount Washington Cemetery in Jefferson Township.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a no-kill animal shelter of the donor's choice.
