Janet Rider Ness

Janet Rider Ness, 80, of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Chicora, died Sunday at the Zephyr Haven Health and Rehab Center and Nursing Home, Zephyrhills, Fla., following an illness.

Born Oct. 26, 1935, in Syracuse, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Victor Vurraro and Viva Mae McDonald Vurraro.

Mrs. Ness had various business and excelled in sales. She owned and operated thye Slipper Trimmer You locations in Chicora and Slipper Rock.

She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chicora and the New Beginnings Baptist Church in Zephyrhills, Fla.

Janet married James E. Rider on March 25, 1953. He died April 5, 1994. She then married George T. Ness on Oct. 22, 1998, and he died in 2013.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Baughman and her husband, Thomas, of Chicora, Sharon Keller and her husband, Jeffery, of Grove City, Tracy O'Connell of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Tammy Ness of Magnolia, Ohio; her sons, J. Daniel Rider and his wife, Lisa, of Lexington, S.C., Tom Ness and his wife, Kimberly, of Coldwater, Mich., Tim Ness and his wife, Julie, of Canton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her brothers, John Vurraro and his wife, Mary, of Syracuse, N.Y., Victor Vurraro and his companion, Rhonda, of Syracuse, N.Y., and Donald Vurraro of Syracuse, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sons and one sister-in-law.

NESS — Friends of Janet Rider Ness, who died Sunday, March 27, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday with funeral services at 4 p.m. at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora.The service will be officiated by the Rev. Mark Wallace.
