Cyndy Sweeney will serve as the 2010-2012 president of the GFWC Intermediate League of Butler.Sweeney has been a member since 1983, when she joined the GFWC Junior Women's Club of Butler. She has served in many positions, including president of the Junior Club, the Butler County Federation and the GFWC Butler County Circle of Presidents. She also has served on state level as Membership chairman for the Western area.She was awarded the Butler County Junior Distinguished Service Award in 1988 for her outstanding community work.She also serves as a volunteer, board member and docent at the Maridon Museum and has served the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Children of the American Revolution, in which she has worked on the local, state and national levels. She also is a member of Philanthropic Educational Organization.She and her husband Jim Sweeney have two sons. She belongs to St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, where she has served as both a Eucharistic minister and CCD teacher.———
Twenty-six models from the Marilyn E. Kane Modeling School and Agency in Butler were involved in fundraisers for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.A total of $3342 was raised through pledges and donations. The top fundraiser was <B>Brienna Simmons</B>, 11, who raised $650. Simmons and Marilyn Kane, assistant director of the Kane Modeling School and Agency, presented the check Sept. 6 during the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon in Pittsburgh.Simmons is the daughter of Doug and Treva Simmons of West Sunbury.———On Sept. 9, the winners at the Butler Duplicate Bridge Club were:First: <B>John Kristufek</B> and <B>Bob Freemon</B>Second: <B>Ray Kramer </B>and <B>Istvan Bardi</B>.
