Nancy E. Hemphill Leitem, 76, of Butler, formerly of Chicora, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, at Concordia Home.

She was born in Butler on Aug. 22, 1946, and was the daughter of Wayne Hemphill and Alice Hoover Hemphill.

She was a 1964 graduate of Karns City High School.

Nancy worked at the Sun Drugstore in Butler, at the snack counter, where she met the love of her life, David Leitem. He came in daily with the guise of really liking their “cherry Cokes.” David finally asked Nancy on a date. They were married in St. Peter Church in Butler on July 15, 1967, and lived happily for more than 50 years. David died on Sept. 28, 2011. They bore two lovely children, Christopher and Amy.

Through the years, Nancy was also employed at the Fashion Bug, and worked for over 16 years at the Holiday Inn, now Days Inn, in Butler.

Nancy was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and AARP.

Nancy leaves behind to cherish her memories her son and daughter, Christopher Leitem of Butler and Amy (Jeff) Scott of West Sunbury; her granddaughter, Alita Scott of West Sunbury; her great-granddaughter, Lilly Scott of West Sunbury; her brother, Gary Hemphill (Diane Ray) of Greenville; two nephews, Eric Hemphill and Patrick Hemphill; her niece, Angie (Chris) Stenson; and two cousins, Luann Gould and Joenie Wilkerson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two aunts, Grace McKinnis and Grace Wolford.

LEITEM — Friends of Nancy E. Hemphill Leitem, who died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Chicora, officiated by Father Lou Pascazi.

Nancy will be laid to rest beside her husband in Hillview Cemetery, Kepples Corners. Chicora.
