Knoch’s Bauer, Greb win WPIAL doubles title

From staff reports

SOUTH PARK — The streak continues for Knoch girls tennis.

After Laura Greb won four successive WPIAL singles titles in previous years, the Knights’ doubles team of Ally Bauer and Lindsay Greb wrapped up the program’s second consecutive WPIAL 2A doubles championship Friday at Glen Creek Tennis Club in South Park.

Bauer and Greb defeated Rayna Thakkar and Gwen Belt of Sewickley Academy, 6-3, 6-2, in trhe championship match.

“Absolutely fantastic,” Knoch coach Nance Conlon said. “After Ally got knocked out of singles competition, I gave her the opportunity to compete in doubles and she jumped at it.”

Bauer won her third career WPIAL doubles title, all with different partners. She won with Libby Conlon her freshman year and won with her sister, Brooke Bauer, before joining forces with Lindsay Greb this year.

“They formed a dream team,” Coach Conlon said. “They know each other because they’ve in the oprogram for so long, but it can take a while to mesh as a doubles unit on the court. These two meshed well together rather quickly.”

Knoch’s second doubles team, juniors Ava Santora and Jade Nether, reached the consolatiopn final before losing to Chartiers Valley’s Kaitlyn Kuczinski and Delaney Fox, 6-4, 6-2. The top three doubles tandems advance to the PIAA Tournament Nov. 4-5.

“I’m so proud of those two,” Conlon said. “They had a grueling tournament with some long matches. They just got a little fatigued at the end.”
