Original play depicts history
If you enjoy learning about history, the Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival is offering a new attraction that portrays how the Jeep was born.
The original play, “The Bantam and the Blitzkrieg,” will be presented three times during the festival weekend.
Performance times are at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
“The Bantam and the Blitzkrieg” is a story about Hitler's invasion of Poland and the lightning war, the Blitzkrieg.
The play shows how the U.S. Army prepared for the entry into the war. It depicts how it called out to all auto manufacturers for a new vehicle that was all-terrain motorized.
The United States wanted to get the vehicle in 49 days, and the American Bantam Car Co. took on that challenge. It based its vehicle on the chassis of the standard Bantam car. This vehicle made history and changed forever the way ground warfare was fought.“As a native of Butler, I believe it is important for the audience to know the history of the Jeep,” said Don Orwald, the play's author.Attendees can watch as actors and actresses re-enact this historical event at the Jeep History Exhibit.
