Several Butler County high school soccer and volleyball teams will be in playoff action this week:
• The Knoch volleyball team will take on Seton LaSalle at 7:30 p.m. today at North Allegheny High School in a preliminary game.
• The Mars girls soccer team will host Quaker Valley at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
• The Seneca Valley girls soccer team will battle Upper St. Clair at 8 p.m. Wednesday at West Allegheny High School.
• The Seneca Valley boys soccer team will play at Peters Township Thursday at a time to be determined.
• The Mars boys soccer team will play Indiana on Thursday at a site and time to be determined.
• The Karns City boys and girls soccer teams will both host games Thursday. The Gremlins' boys will take on Coudersport at 5 p.m. The Gremlins' girls will play Redbank Valley at 7 p.m.
• The Mars volleyball team will host either Kittanning or West Mifflin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
• The Freeport volleyball team will host either Blackhawk or Quaker Valley at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns guard Jason Pinkston, a 2011 fifth-round pick from Pittsburgh, remains hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs.Pinkston was rushed to the Cleveland Clinic on Thursday with the life-threatening condition. He had been feeling poorly for most of last week and had gotten ill during the previous Sunday's game against Cincinnati. The 25-year-old will likely miss the remainder of this season, and the Browns are expected to place the second-year player on injured reserve — maybe as early as Monday.
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay Packers safety Charles Woodson has a broken collarbone and will be out approximately six weeks.Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed the severity of the injury Monday, a day after the team's 30-20 win at St. Louis.
SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Chargers have placed kicker Nate Kaeding on injured reserve and plan to release him when he's healthy.Kaeding kicked in the first three games before injuring his groin. In 2011, he blew out his left knee on the season-opening kickoff.He is the most accurate kicker in NFL history, making 180 of 207 field goal attempts, or 87 percent.
SHEFFIELD, England — A soccer fan has been sentenced to jail for four months for assaulting a goalkeeper during an English league game following an all-day drinking binge.Aaron Cawley told police he was so intoxicated after drinking a mix of beer, cider and vodka that he doesn't remember going onto the field and shoving former England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland in the face.
