Herman “Buddy” Melvin Leventhal, 96, formerly of Butler, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at his home in Boca Raton, Fla., surrounded by his family.

Buddy was born July 26, 1926, in Butler.

After graduating from Butler High School in 1943, Buddy enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in World War II in Okinawa, and later in the Korean War.

In 1952, Buddy and his brothers, Floyd (aka Tunny) and Alvin, opened Allied Auto Accessories. They ran a successful business for more than 40 years.

Buddy married Joan Glasser on Oct. 12, 1958. They settled in Butler, where they raised four children, Jamie, Robert, and twins, Stacey and Stuart. Buddy was a kind and caring man, who instilled a strong work ethic into his children.

In 2001, Buddy and Joan made Boca Raton their permanent residence.

Buddy is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 64 years, Joan (Glasser) Leventhal; his beloved children and their spouses, Jamie (Leventhal) and Paul Markowitz, Robert and Maria (Mitch) Leventhal, Stacey (Leventhal) and Ian Imber, and Stuart Leventhal; his brother, Alvin Leventhal; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; two brothers; and two nieces.

LEVENTHAL — Herman “Buddy” Melvin Leventhal, who died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, will be laid to rest in a private graveside service on Thursday at B’nai Abraham Cemetery, Portman Road, Butler.

Arrangements are under the direction of THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, Butler.
