Robert Smith

Robert H. Smith, 90, of West Sunbury passed away at 12:50 a.m. Sunday at Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Bob was born on Jan. 11, 1924, in West Sunbury. He was the son of the late James Floyd Smith and the late Florence Oliver Boozel Smith.

Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a past commander of the American Legion Post 243 in West Sunbury.

He retired as a steelworker for the American Bridge Co. after 35 years of service.

Bob was a member of the West Sunbury Presbyterian Church. His hobby was spending time with his grandchildren, who he adored.

Bob is survived by his five daughters, Linda Nagy of Prospect, Wendy (Al) Hortert of West Sunbury, Peggy (Bill) Morris of Oil City, Ruth (Larry) Haugh of Brookville and Bobbi (John) Wiles of Hilliards. Also surviving are his six granddaughters, Pamela (Tom) Huff, Jodi (Dave) Laughlin, Ashley (Jeffrey Byrns) Hortert, Terra (Donnie) Deal, Amanda Scholl and Jennifer Horne; his three grandsons, Eric (Bailey) Hortert, RJ (Jamie Ashbaugh) Wiles and Michael Kradel; his 13 great-grandchildren; and his great-great-granddaughter.

Also surviving are his sister, Ruth Smith of Elizabethton, Tennessee; his brother, Bill Smith of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie A. Hunsberger Smith, who passed away on Feb. 22, 2013; his two sons, Robert Larry Smith and Kenneth George Smith; his four sisters and his eight brothers.

SMITH — The friends of Robert H. Smith, who passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, will be received at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeffrey Lang, his pastor, officiating.Burial will be in West Sunbury Union Cemetery.The family of Bob Smith would like to thank the caregivers of the VNA Hospice for all the care and support to dad and the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the VNA Hospice.
