'Always' a Hit Butler native returns as Patsy Cline
CRANBERRY TWP — From Butler to Broadway and back again, Marlana Dunn will take a break from her tour of “Jersey Boys” to star in Keystone State Music Theater’s “Always … Patsy Cline” opening June 12 at the Rotary Amphitheater in Community Park.
A Butler native and Point Park University graduate, Dunn will play the title role in the musical.
Dunn originally began working on the show with the writer himself, Ted Swindley, at the Pittsburgh CLO.
She is touring with the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical, “Jersey Boys” as Mary Delgado.
She has appeared in “Always” before as well as Pittsburgh CLO’s “The Marvelous Wonderettes” and “Ruthless, The Musical.” Additional credits include “The Visit” and “Reefer Madness” among others at the Pittsburgh Playhouse/Pittsburgh Playhouse Repertory Company. Regional credits include “All Shook Up” and “A Musical Christmas Carol” at North Shore Music Theatre.
“Always” is a musical play and tribute to the country singer who died tragically at age 30. The show is based on a true story about Cline’s friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961.
The show includes down home country humor, emotion, some audience participation and many of Cline’s hits such as “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces” and Sweet Dreams.”
Shows are at 8:15 p.m. June 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20.
