Armstrong man faces charges

Suspect allegedly drove car into back of police cruiser

An Armstrong County man is accused of driving his vehicle into the back of an occupied Butler patrol car during an argument with a woman in the city last month.

The rear-end crash Feb. 17 injured Patrolman Nathan Shulik. The woman also suffered minor injuries.

Police on Friday charged Antoine K. Pollard, 26, of Apollo with two counts of reckless endangerment and one count each of simple assault and careless driving.

The case started as a domestic quarrel between Pollard and 34-year-old Tomika Cottrill of Butler about 4:20 p.m. on South Chestnut Street, police said. Shulik had answered the call and was leaving in his cruiser.

While stopped at a red light on South Chestnut Street and watching in his rearview mirror, the officer noticed Cottrill was hanging on to the passenger side of Pollard’s car. Moments later, according to court documents, the suspect accelerated, hitting the back of the police car.

The collision momentarily knocked Pollard unconscious. Shulik suffered head and neck pain.

Cottrill, who fell off the defendant’s car and landed on the edge of South Chestnut Street, complained of pain to her ankle. She was cited for summary disorderly conduct.

Police said the cruiser and Pollard’s car both sustained minor damage.
