Carl Flory
Carl Flory, 86, of Butler passed away at 7:38 p.m. Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.
He was born April 10, 1928, in Harrisonburg, Va., to the late William F. Flory and Linnie Driver Flory.
Mr. Flory graduated from Bridgewater College in 1949 with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Bible and religious education. He then graduated from Alexian Brothers Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago, Ill., in 1954.
He worked as a nurse at VA Butler Healthcare Medical Center, retiring in 1993.
Mr. Flory was a member of North Main Street Church of God and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Mr. Flory is survived by his wife, Shirley Flory, who he married Dec. 21, 1956; two daughters, Karen Hoerner and her husband, Richard, of Kennett Square and Cheryl Temple and her husband, Timothy, of Butler; four grandchildren, Matthew Hoerner, Michael Hoerner, Madeline Temple and Taylor Temple; his brother, the Rev. Dee C. Flory and his wife, Janet, of Waynesboro, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon D. Flory and Marvin W. Flory.
Flory — The relatives and friends of Carl Flory, who passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, are invited to his viewing from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at North Main Street Church Of God, 1201 N. Main St. Extension, Butler, with Pastor Brandon Lenhart officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dee C. Flory, brother of the deceased. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Burial Estates.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Meals on Wheels, 218 E.
