Charles Bopp
Charles A. “Charlie” Bopp, 75, of Butler, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice.
Born Feb. 18, 1947, in Butler, he was the son of the late Charles A. Horton and Grace (Brothers) Bopp.
Charlie was a 1965 graduate of Butler Senior High School.
He honorably served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1969.
Upon his discharge from the Navy, Charlie began his career with Marmon/Keystone, where he worked for 45 years until his retirement on Nov. 1, 2013.
For many years, Charlie was active with the Scouts as a Cub Scout leader of Pack 6 and Boy Scout leader of Troop 6.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Butler, where he was on the Stewards Committee, the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora, and the Meridian Vets Club.
Charlie enjoyed traveling, was a big Steelers fan, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and their activities.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Betty (Snyder) Bopp, whom he married on July 2, 1966; three sons, John K. (Rebecca) Bopp of Pittsburgh, Jeffrey Bopp of Chambersburg, and Scott Bopp of Butler; four grandchildren, Trevor, Morgan, Ellis and Anna; three brothers, John A. (Sharon) Bopp, Raymond “Jasper” Bopp and Paul Bopp; five sisters, Kathy (Jim) Campbell, Lucy Niggel, Tammy (Ed) Desmond, Barbara (Joe) Yadesky and Grace Merrill; his sister-in-law, Phyllis (Gary) Smith; his brother-in-law, Tom (Jane) Snyder; 12 nieces; eight nephews; and 27 great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his stepfather, John A. Bopp Sr.
BOPP — All are invited to attend a visitation for Charles A. “Charlie” Bopp, who died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, to be held from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler, with the Rev. John Baver officiating.
A committal service along with military honors will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in his honor to American Legion Post 778, 150 Legion Memorial Drive, Butler, PA 16001, or Meridian Vets Club, 125 Vets Club Road, Butler, PA 16001.
