Virginia Mair Stirling, 97, of Cabot, formerly of Middlesex Township, died Saturday morning at the Concordia Lutheran Home, Cabot.

Born in Chicago, Ill., May 17, 1913, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Sarah Katherine Mair.

She was a member of the Glade Run United Presbyterian Church and a member of the Mars Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

She was a nurse's aide for 28 years at the Valencia Woods Nursing Home in Valencia and worked at the Joe King Farm boxing produce while she was in her 90s.

She volunteered at the LAS/St. John Care Center in Mars and at Valencia Woods in Valencia, where she received Volunteer of the Year award from St. Barnabas. She also volunteered at the South Butler County Meals on Wheels in Valencia.

She loved to write poetry and play the violin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hanford H. Stirling, who she married May 23, 1937, and who died April 28, 1985; one sister, Francis Ellis; and two brothers, Ernest E. and Squire T. Mair.

Surviving are two daughters, Katherine Wakefield and her husband, Kenneth, of Middlesex Township and Royene Strazisar of Mattawan, Mich.; two sons, John D.H. Stirling and his wife, Linda, of Harrisville and Brian W. Stirling and his wife, Patricia, of Harmony; two grandchildren, David Stirling and Brad Strazisar; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Steven Maddix; and many loyal friends.

A private service for Virginia Mair Stirling, who died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, was today at the <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home</B>, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, with the Rev.
