Helen H. Heist McCaslin

Helen H. Heist McCaslin, 93, of Renfrew passed away at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Passavant Retirement Community.

She was born on May 25, 1921, in Center Township to the late Paul Heist and Elizabeth Sarver Heist.

Mrs. McCaslin worked as a dietitian technician at Arnot Hospital, Elmira, N.Y., retiring in 1985.

She was the past president of the Meridian Senior Citizens and a member of the Harbison Chapter YMCA retirees. She was a member of the Butler YMCA Mother's Club and the UCT.

Mrs. McCaslin was a member of the Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, where she served with the Women's Association and was a Sunday school teacher, elder and deacon. She received the Good Samaritan Award in 2002. Mrs. McCaslin enjoyed traveling, quilting, flower gardening and her grandchildren.

Mrs. McCaslin is survived by her son, John J. McCaslin II and his wife, Joyce, of Renfrew; her three daughters, Margaret Ann Schlichter and her husband, Dave, of Spring Grove, Rebecca James and her husband, Dave, of Runnemede, N.J., and Mary Lou Osterman and her husband, Kerry, of Voorhees, N.J.; her 13 grandchildren; her 16 great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Hovis of Center Valley; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John McCaslin, who she married on June 28, 1946, and who passed away on Dec. 22, 2008, and her three brothers.

Heist McCaslin, who passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015.A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., Butler, with the Rev. Merry Meloy of the Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church officiating.A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in the St. John's Reformed Church Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., Butler, PA 16001, or to the Butler YMCA, 339 N.
