Ronda McConnell

Ronda Lee (Hogg) McConnell passed away Dec. 1, 2021, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ronda will always be remembered for her giving spirit. She made her mark on many lives through nursing, Scouting, school organizations and many more.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth McConnell; her sons Neal, and Mathew and his significant other, Mary Strange; a brother and two sisters; scores of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; countless friends and colleagues; and a pair of fur grandbabies.

Ronda was born on the farm Sept. 14, 1949, in Stoneboro, Pa., to Roland J. and Alice (Glensey) Hogg, the fourth of six children, Joan (Hogg) Mandell, Roberta (Hogg) Brocklehurst, John Hogg, Jeanne (Hogg) Mitchell and Doug Hogg.

Ronda was a 1967 graduate of Lakeview High School and the Class of 1970 of Jameson Memorial Hospital Nursing Program in New Castle.

She started as a certified OR nurse at Butler Memorial Hospital, until a back injury sidelined her to help patients as a case manager, discharge planner and utilization reviewer. She was also a past president of the PNA Nurses Union.

Ronda married Ken on June 27, 1970, settled in Butler, and had two sons, Mathew and Neal. She took a very active role in supporting her sons as a Cub Scout den mother, Troop 20 Boy Scout Committee member, Northwest Elementary PTA member, and booster for basketball and football teams at Butler.

After her boys graduated and she retired, Ronda stayed busy. Many can attest to the volumes of letters and cards she hand-wrote and boxes of cookies she delivered, making especially sure that every veteran felt personally thanked for their service.

She also loved spending time with the family on vacation at the Outer Banks, the annual “Soup Day,” or any other excuse to get together. Many loved ones received cross-stitched baby blankets for their newborns, or tablecloths for their new homes. She also enjoyed loom crocheting hats for the homeless every fall.

Ronda always supported our home teams and was a fan of the Steelers, Riverhounds and college basketball teams. She was especially a fan of the Penguins, and enjoyed twirling her gold scarf every goal we scored.

MCCONNELL — Friends of Ronda Lee (Hogg) McConnell, who died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at Boylan Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Connoquenessing Township, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.
