Ronald A. Champ

Ronald A. Champ, 78, of Butler passed away on Jan. 23, 2020, at St. Clair Hospital.

He was born Sept. 9, 1941, in Braddock Hills, and was the son of the late Albert Champ and the late Caroline Betlej Champ.

Ron worked for Karns City High School for 17 years, moving on to Butler Community College for an additional 17 years, before retiring in 2007. He was a football and basketball coach for many years at Karns City High School.

Ron was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. He belonged to the National Education Association, Pennsylvania School Education Association (PSEA), and Pennsylvania School Education Retirement Systems (PSERS).

Ron served as a chief negotiator for Karns City Education Association and also served as a former president of PSEA.

He enjoyed doing carpentry, woodworking, and drawing and painting.

Ron is survived by his one son, Warren (Kim) Champ of Washington, Pa.; two daughters, Bethany Champ of Butler, and Tammy (Dwight) Boice of Butler; three grandchildren, David (Elizabeth) Champ, Jeffrey Champ and Brianne Yusko; two nieces, Kimberly (Mike) Bradford and Lauren (Kevin) Hackett; and two nephews, William (Sharon) Adkins and Russell (Rose) Adkins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Valjean Jeffreys Champ, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1964, and who passed away on April 21, 2016; and one sister, Audrey Champ Adkins.

CHAMP — Friends of Ronald A. Champ, who died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 107 Staley Ave., Butler, with the Rev. Carmen Schullo of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and Ron's grandson, the Rev. David Champ, associate pastor of Youth Family Ministry at Westfield Presbyterian Church of New Castle, officiating.Burial will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053, and/or the American Stroke Association, 300 5th Ave., Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
