CRANBERRY TWP — A new sandwich shop will occupy the site left vacant after Kings Restaurant went out of business about three years ago on Route 19.

Ron Henshaw, the director of community development for the township, said the new restaurant will be Jason's Deli, a national chain.

He said the Jason's Deli in Cranberry will be the first in Pennsylvania.

Henshaw said the developers will do a “scrape and rebuild” at the site, meaning they will demolish the Kings building at 20117 Route 19 and then build the more than 5,000-square-feet Jason's Deli in its place.

He said the developers are expected to present preliminary plans at the Sept. 29 township planning commission meeting.

The development could be up for township supervisors' approval as early as October.

CRANBERRY TWP — Westinghouse Electric has opened its first outage control center to provide central monitoring and response to its utility customers' outage operations at U.S. nuclear power plant sites on a 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week basis.The Westinghouse Outage Control Center, based at the company's Field Services Center of Excellence in Madison, Westmoreland County, aids Westinghouse's outage service with centralized, around-the-clock response.It will monitor plant sites and coordinate resources as needed during outages.In addition to this center, Westinghouse is using live video communications at several sites.

WASHINGTON — Fewer Americans bought homes in August, as investors retreated from real estate and first-time buyers remained scarce.Sales of existing homes fell 1.8 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.05 million, the National Association of Realtors said Monday. That snaps a four-month streak of gains. August sales are down from a July rate of 5.14 million.Much of the decline came from the exodus of investors, who had been buying properties in the aftermath of the housing bust and recession. Investors accounted for just 12 percent of August purchases, compared to 17 percent a year earlier.
