Shirley Ann Thompson 87, of Germantown, Md., formerly of Butler, died peacefully on May 30 at her daughter’s home in Mt. Airy, Md., where she had lived in the past one month of her life with hospice care. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Sarver on Sept. 19, 1927, to Olive and William Post.

She was raised in Butler and made her home with her loving husband of more than 50 years, William F. Thompson Sr.

She was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Germantown, Md.

She was very avid walker and even walked 4 miles a day up to a few months before she died.

She was very active in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives.

She loved to travel and often took trips with her friends and children.

She was a real estate agent with Carl E. Shields Realtors and worked many years for Dr. Ernest E. Moore, who also was a dear friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than 50 years, William F. Thompson Sr.; and one brother, Dick Post

She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Joy Rothen and her husband, John, of Mt. Airy, Md., and Rebecca Ann Edick and her husband, Doug, of Santa Clarita, Ca.; and one son, William F. Thompson Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Butler; one sister, Nancy Daugherty of Butler; six grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

THOMPSON — Memorial services, for Shirley Ann Thompson who died on Saturday, May 30, 2015, will be at 4:30 p.m. June 17 at St. Luke Lutheran Church 330 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, PA 16023.
