GREENSBURG — A mother and daughter are jailed on charges they were using heroin in a parked car with the younger woman's 6-month-old son in the back seat.

Online court records don't list attorneys for 43-year-old Karen Ann Gillespie, of Latrobe, and 23-year-old Courtney Lynn Jording, of New Derry.

They were arrested Wednesday in Greensburg and remained in the Westmoreland County Prison Thursday on drug possession and child endangerment charges.

Greensburg police found the women after someone reported seeing them doing drugs about 11:15 a.m. in a convenience store parking lot.

The witness told police she saw Jording injecting the drug into her mother. When police arrived, they found four syringes in the car, along with 16 empty single-dose bags and 41 full bags. The baby was placed with a family member.

ALLISON — A Western Pennsylvania couple faces assault and endangerment charges for allegedly underfeeding their daughter, now 14, who police say almost starved last summer.Defense attorney Jack Connor says the girl now denies the allegations against the Allison couple, 39-year-old Jennifer Havrilesko, and her husband, 40-year-old Edwin. Connor says, “I don't know how you have charges when you have the victim denying it ever occurred.”State police say the girl weighed 65 pounds when she became the couple's foster child in June 2011, but just 48 pounds when taken to a Pittsburgh hospital in July 2014. She was adopted in August 2013.The girl told police she was underfed and even took candy canes from the family Christmas tree for nourishment. But her mother told police the girl had food allergies and regurgitated when fed.

PITTSBURGH — A man who was drunk when he crashed into a teen motorist, killing her, has gotten a longer-than-expected prison sentence because of a previous drunken driving conviction.Jared Schillinger, 30, of Cheswick, had faced a mandatory minimum three- to six-year sentence for homicide by vehicle while driving drunk when he smashed into 18-year-old Rikki Fleming's car during a snowstorm on Route 28 on Feb. 16, 2013.Schillinger was speeding when he rear-ended the Millvale woman's car, ejecting her and killing her instantly. Schillinger's blood-alcohol level was nearly three times over the legal limit for driving.Allegheny County Judge Thomas Flaherty sentenced Schillinger on Thursday to four to eight years in prison because of his 2011 DUI.Schillinger apologized and said he hopes to eventually honor Fleming's memory.
