Jane Boosel Bortmas

Jane Boosel Bortmas, 94, of West Sunbury passed away Friday at New Haven Court.

Jane was born Jan. 11, 1922, in West Sunbury. She was the daughter of the late Ross R. Fleming and the late Esther Wilson Fleming.

Jane retired from the Moniteau School District, where she taught first grade at Dassa McKinney Elementary School. She was the oldest and last surviving member of the Class of 1944 of the Slippery Rock State Teachers College, now Slippery Rock University. She was a member of West Sunbury Presbyterian Church.

Jane is survived by two daughters, Sally Grossman of Slippery Rock and Karen (Don) Snow of West Sunbury; one son, Mark Boosel of West Sunbury; seven grandsons, Brian (Phyllis), Eric and Troy (Jenny) Grossman, Don, Chad and Ryan Snow and Robbie Boosel; four great-grandchildren, Easton Snow and Cade, Avery and Brynn Grossman; five stepsons, Robert “Ike” (Millie) Bortmas, Willis “Ace” (Doris) Bortmas, William Bortmas, Donald (Sarah) Bortmas and Ronald Bortmas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert M. Boosel, who died Oct. 2, 1957; her second husband, Willis R. Bortmas, who died May 21, 1989; and her son, Roger Boosel, who died Oct. 19, 1968.

Being the last member of the Ross Fleming family, Jane also was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

BORTMAS — Services and burial for Jane Boosel Bortmas, who died Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, will be conducted privately at the West Sunbury Union Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Methodist Church, 224 Hallston Road, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.The William F.
