BUTLER TWP — Butler Township will pit a pair of baseball teams against teams from Japan as the annual Friendship Series makes a stop at Highfield Park Saturday.

Butler Township's 15-year-old Colt team will play Japan at 10 a.m. The township's 14-year-old Federation Pony team will play Japan in a 1:30 p.m. game.

NEW ORLEANS – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field program earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team honors for the 2010-11 season Friday.Slippery Rock ranked second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and 18th in NCAA Division II with a team-GPA of 3.12.

VERONA — Dennis Munko of Birdsfoot Golf Club, along with amateurs Bob Barto, Dick Rizzo and Wally Bylinowski, carded a 61 to place second at the Dick's Sporting Goods Pro-3 Senior Amateur Friday at Green Oaks Country Club.Bob Salera of Cool Springs Golf Center, along with three amateurs, captured the event with a 57.Munko tied for third in the low professional event with a 71 while Denny Dolci of St. Jude Golf Club tied for sixth place with a 72. Munko also won the professional skins game on Hole No. 9.

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Howard Schnellenberger played for Bear Bryant, led the Miami Hurricanes to their first national championship, was the offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins’ perfect season and built a football program from scratch at Florida Atlantic.The 77-year-old Schnellenberger announced that he’ll retire from coaching following the 2011 season at Florida Atlantic, his last stop on a journey that began more than 50 years ago and saw him be part of four college national championships and a Super Bowl victory.
