CANTON, OHIO — First-time candidates John Lynch, Michael Strahan and Jonathan Ogden are among 27 semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2013 class.
Joining Lynch, Strahan and Ogden among first-year eligible players are Morten Andersen, Larry Allen and Warren Sapp.
Also among those making the cut to 27 are former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, Jerome Bettis, Cris Carter, Charles Haley, and senior committee nominees Curley Culp and Dave Robinson.
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics have acquired right-hander Chris Resop from the Pittsburgh Pirates for minor league right-hander Zach Thornton.Resop was 1-4 with one save and a 3.91 ERA in 61 relief appearances with Pittsburgh last year.Thornton went 4-0 with 16 saves and a 4.53 ERA in 48 relief appearances for Class A Stockton last season.
BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Orioles have acquired infielder Yamaico Navarro from the Pittsburgh Pirates for minor league pitcher Jhondaniel Medina.The 25-year-old Navarro hit .160 with one homer and four RBIs in 29 games with Pittsburgh last season. He is a career.279 hitter over seven minor league seasons.Medina is a 19-year-old right-hander who pitched primarily in the Gulf Coast League in 2011.
NEW YORK — Four Raiders and one Bengal have been fined $26,250 each for fighting in last Sunday’s game.Cincinnati tackle Andrew Whitworth and Oakland defensive linemen Desmond Bryant, Lamarr Houston,Tommy Kelly and Matt Shaughnessy drew the fines Friday.Also fined for actions in other games were Texans defensive end J.J. Watt $15,750; Chiefs offensive lineman Donald Stephenson, $15,750; and Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin, $7,875.
