VERONA, N.Y. — Butler boxer Brian Minto weighed in at 218½ pounds before his scheduled fight Saturday against Tony Grano.

Grano weighed in at 222 pounds.

Minto carries a 35-4 record into the NABF heavyweight title eliminator fight. Grano, who hails from Hartford, Conn., is 18-2.

The 10-round bout, which will take place at 9:30 p.m. at the Turning Stone Casino will be available for $9.99 at www.gfl.tv.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University women's volleyball team's sixth annual “Dig for the Cure” event Oct. 12 raised $1,300 for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer cure organization.SRU-hosted Dig for the Cure events have now raised more than $20,000 over the years for breast cancer awareness projects.

LOCK HAVEN — Slippery Rock University seniors Alyssa Barrett (women’s soccer) and Devin Goda (football) were recipients of the PSAC’s fall 2011 Top 10 Award to the top five male and female athletes.Candidates must achieve at least a 3.5 GPA and be a starter or key reserve.Barrett, a four-year starter, led the defense, which set a school record shutout streak of 11 consecutive games, the fifth longest streak in Division II history.Goda had 75 receptions for 1,028 yards and 11 touchdowns this past fall.
