Cumberledge

C. Thomas "Tom" Cumberledge, 68, of Evans City died Tuesday morning at his home after an 8-month battle with cancer.

Born April 12, 1939, at the home of his grandparents, Barbara and Ray Cumberledge in Patterson Township, Beaver County, he was the son of Norma J. Frederick of Zelienople and the late Dr. Roy V. Yorns.

He was raised for his first 12 years with his "Uncle" Ralph, who was two months older. Ralph and his wife, Clara, survive.

In 1951, he moved to Evans City with his mother and stepfather, the late, Robert Frederick. He graduated from the Evans City High School in 1957.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Evans City, where he volunteered many hours on the recent renovations.

Mr. Cumberledge retired from the Mine Safety Appliance Co. in 1997 after 35 years and had worked his way up to supervisor of the maintenance department, and the past five years were spent at the Jacksonville, N.C., plant. It was a known fact that you were considered lucky to work in one of his departments. He never asked his people to do anything he wouldn't do.

One of his ambitions, as listed in his high school yearbook, was to have his own family. He was proud of his four sons, and his five granddaughters were the light of his life.

He loved golfing and was a member of the M.S.A. Golf League. He also enjoyed camping and fishing trips and was the Iman family handyman.

Surviving are his wife, E. Kay Iman Cumberledge, whom he married April 18, 1958; four sons and daughters-in- laws, Tom Jr. and Phyllis Cumberledge of Williamsport, Ray and Jan Cumberledge of Avonworth, Rob and Jane Cumberledge of Evans City and Rick and Anne Cumberledge of Atlanta, Ga.; his mother of Zelienople; three brothers and their wives, Keith and Sue Frederick of Georgia, Mark and Gail Frederick of Portersville and Luke and Kathi Frederick of Renfrew; five granddaughters Stefanie, Karen, Emily, Alison and Courtney; two step-granddaughters, Nicole Weber and Kerry Fronk, and three step-great-grandchildren, Annika Fronk and Chase and Carlee Weber.

He also is survived by his uncle and aunt, Ted Cumberledge and Jane Reeder; six cousins; three nephews, and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, an infant son, three grandsons and sister, Amy Frederick.
