Mary Elizabeth (Greer) Burtner
Mary Elizabeth (Greer) Burtner, 91, of Butler went to be with the Lord at 6:35 p.m. Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 22, 1922, in Jefferson Township to the late Robert L. Greer and Matilda Elizabeth (Eiffler) Greer.
Mrs. Burtner was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women, and the 3M's church group. She was a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent and a Stephen's Minister. Mary was a 4-H leader in sewing and a Cub Scout den mother. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and especially her family.
She worked for Saxman's Greenhouse and Flowers by Twila.
She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy E. Heberling and her husband, Tom, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Janet A. Matusak of Middletown, Ohio; her two sons, Donald C. Burtner and his wife, Kathleen, of Butler and Bruce K. Burtner and his wife, Sue, of Butler; her seven grandchildren, David Heberling and his wife, Sharon, of Trenton, Ohio, Deborah Dunham and her husband, Jim, of San Carlos, Calif., Daniel Burtner, Joseph Burtner and his wife, Janet, of Butler, Michael Burtner of Butler, Nathan Burtner and his wife, Julie, of Butler and Brooke McDeavitt and her husband, Tim, of Butler; and her five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Hey and her husband, Tim, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Andrew (AJ) Dunham of Nashua, N.H., Anna Root and her husband, Matt, of Trenton, Ohio, Brad Heberling of Richland, Wash., and Anthony Burtner of Butler. She is also survived by her great-great-grandson, Warner Charles Hey; one sister, Catherine A. Hutchison of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Charles Keith Burtner, who she married on Aug. 28, 1940, and who passed away on June 16, 2012; her two sisters, Lauretta M. Phillips and Alice E. O'Brien; and a son-in-law, Mike Matusak.
BURTNER — The friends of Mary Elizabeth (Greer) Burtner, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler, with Pastor Patricia Nelson of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
