Slippery Rock University enrollment shifting
Enrollment at Slippery Rock University decreased by 2.1% compared to the fall 2021, semester, but first-year enrollment is the highest it's been since 2019, according to a news release from the university.
According to the official count taken by the university Sept. 12, the 15th day of classes for the Fall 2022 semester, there are 8,243 students enrolled at the university.
First-year enrollment is higher than each of the last two years, at 1,459. The news release attributes this to smaller first-year classes in the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021.
SRU also has an 82.3% retention rate of students returning for their second fall, which is above the national average of 75%. The 15th day is used as the official date for national and state reporting purposes.
The news release said the university's enrollment has begun to show signs of rebounding, despite the changing demographics and preferences of students and employers in the state and region.
