August E. Bastin
August E. "Augie" Bastin, 82, of Saxonburg died Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Hospice.
Born June 27, 1927, in Creighton, he was the son of George and Elizabeth Collins Bastin.
He was a member of the U.S Navy Seabees during World War II in Guam.
He was the owner and operator of A.E. Bastin Plumbing & Heating. Prior to owning his own business, he worked for the Westerman Feed Store in Freeport.
He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Cabot. He was a lifetime member of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Saxonburg VFW Post 7376 and the American Legion Post 683.
He loved and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Penguins and the Steelers.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis (Thoma) Bastin, who he married Jan. 20, 1959; his sons, Jeffrey (Janet) Bastin of Cabot, Gary (Shelly) Bastin of Greensburg and Michael (Dawn) Bastin of Cabot; seven grandchildren, Zachary, Mallory, Hilary, Brittany, Bryce, Brandon and Brooke Bastin; two step-grandchildren, Brianne Bowser and Lindsay Mintz; four brothers, George (Joyce) Bastin of Saxonburg, Emil (Catherine) Bastin of Nevada, Lloyd (Carole) Bastin of Sarver and Nelson (Joyce) Bastin of Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
<B>BASTIN</B> — Friends of August E. "Augie" Bastin, who died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Ward Stakem, O.F.M. Cap., officiating.
