Jeffreys tosses no-hitter for Mars
Freeport, Cranberry also get pitching gems in victories
Mike Jeffreys tossed a no-hitting, striking out 10 as Mars downed Pine-Richland 6-0 in Eagle County League baseball action Friday evening.
Jeffreys struck out 10 and issued just one walk in facing one over the minumum.
Phil Shallenberger had three hits and drove in two runs and Aaron Ordy singled twice, doubled and drove in a run for Mars (15-1).
Paul Westwood added a double, single and two RBI for Mars.
n Sean O’Donnell, Luke Prazenica and Bryan Rayburg combined on a three-hit shutout as Freeport downed Zelienople 5-0.
Bill Daugherty had a single and two RBI and Nick Glesk a single and two runs scored for Freeport (11-7).
n Mike Mulvey hurled eight innings of one-hit ball to lead Cranberry to a 1-0 victory over Mars II in extra innings on Friday.
Mulvey fanned eight batters and walked four during the complete-game effort.
Todd Erdos supplied the game-winning hit with a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth. The RBI base knock scored Hugh Mulvey, who led off the frame with a double.
Earlier in the game, Hugh Mulvey singled and Greg Miller added a double.
John Thomas was the tough-luck pitcher for Mars II. He fired seven innings, striking out five and walking two. Brian Hart recorded the lone hit for Mars II.
Cranberry (13-5-1) will return to action on Wednesday night against Zelienople.
