PITTSBURGH — Butler's Wyatt Daugherty and Todd Erdos have been named WPIAL Class AAAA Pitcher and Coach of the Year, respectively.
Mars resident Phil Madonna, a senior catcher for Vincentian Academy, has been named WPIAL Class A Player of the Year.
Under the guidance of Erdos, Butler finished 12-6 this season and was co-champion of its section after winning only two games all of last year. The Golden Tornado dropped a 3-2 decision to Moon in the WPIAL playoffs. Daugherty was 8-0 during the regular season.
Madonna is hitting .483 this season — 29 for 60 — with Vincentian. He has two homers, 22 RBI and has scored 29 runs.
PORT ALLEGANY —The A-C Valley softball team saw its season end with a 3-1 loss to Port Allegany in the first round of the District 9 Class A playoffs Monday afternoon.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Former Northwestern University women’s soccer assistant coach Robert Battisson has joined the Slippery Rock University program.Battisson will serve as The Rock’s women’s soccer assistant coach and will work with head coach Noreen Herlihy.Battisson spent two years at Northwestern. He spent the previous five years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Akron.
