SRU drops men's hoops opener

SLIPPERY ROCK — Leading by 21 points in the second half, Slippery Rock University’s men’s basketball team could not hold on, dropping a 99-95 overtime decision to Notre Dame (Ohio) College Friday night at Morrow Field House.

The game was SRU’s season opener.

Frankie Hughes scored a game-high 27 points in his Rock debut, also grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out four assists. He sank six 3-pointers.

Butler graduate Tyler Frederick, a transfer from La Roche College, produced a double-double in his first game with SRU. Frederick tallied 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 26 minutes of play.

Jonathan McFall and Bobby Clifford scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, for SRU. Lashon Lindsey came off the bench to score 13 points and grab six rebounds.

Jaedon Willis paced six Notre Dame players in double figures with 21 points.

SRU hosts Alderson-Broaddus at 7 p.m. Saturday.
