William R. Schaffer

William R. Schaffer

William R. Schaffer, 84, formerly of Penn Township, passed away Sept. 28 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Born Nov. 25, 1931, he was the son of Margaret Bulford and Jack Schaffer.

Bill retired from the Operating Engineers Local 66 as the administrator of the Joint Apprenticeship Training Program. He was a private pilot and had enjoyed spending time in the motorhome with his wife of more than 50 years, Rita M. Schaffer, who died in 2005.

Bill served in the U.S. Military Police during the Korean War.

Bill will be missed by his daughter, Diane Hillwig and her husband, Larry, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his son, Glenn R. Schaffer of Butler; three special grandsons, Jay Hillwig and his fiancée, Megan Chung, of Leesburg, Va., Joel Hillwig of Dover, Ohio, and Jordan Hillwig of Cranberry Township; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, J. Robert Schaffer.

SCHAFFER — Friends of William R. Schaffer, who died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, may greet his family beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., followed by a memorial service at noon. Burial has taken place at the Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery and Mausoleum.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Butler.
