Daniel Surrena
Daniel Otto “Dan” Surrena, 84, of Chicora, went to be with the Lord late Saturday afternoon, Sept. 3, 2022, at the Chicora Medical Center.
Dan was born in Clintonville, Venango County, on June 1, 1938. He was the son of the late Daniel E. and Jean Titus Surrena.
He was a 1957 graduate of Moniteau High School.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served his country from 1957 until 1961.
Dan and his wife were longtime members of the Karns City United Methodist Church.
Dan retired from the machine shop at Penreco in Karns City, following more than 36 years of service.
He enjoyed taking walks, talking and joking with friends and relatives, reading and watching westerns, NASCAR and IndyCar, camping, traveling and dancing. Dan was a skilled carpenter, having worked on various projects around his home. In his later years, he was glad to share his expertise as “the foreman” on family building projects. He looked forward to family dinners at his home.
Dan is survived by his wife, Donna J. Umstead Surrena, whom he married at the former Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church on Feb. 10, 1962.
Also surviving are three children, Debbie L. Steele and her husband, Rick, Denise M. Young and her husband, Walter, and David W. Surrena and his wife, Sue, all of Chicora.
“Sonny” is survived by a brother, Robert Surrena of Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, R. Bruce Steele and his wife, Jessica, Serina Steele-Haller, Rebecca Ostrzeniec and her husband, Mark, Joshua Young and his wife, Jessica, Heather West and her husband, Patrick, Sarah Roudebush and her husband, Kyle, Megan Wiley and her husband, Jon, and Dillan Surrena and his girlfriend, Autumn; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as a number of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
SURRENA — Friends of Daniel Otto “Dan” Surrena, who died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022, will be received from noon until 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at HILE FUNERAL HOME OF CHICORA, 339 Chicora-Fenelton Road, Chicora.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bev Roscoe, pastor of the Karns City United Methodist Church, officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by members of the Chicora and Bradys Bend American Legion posts.
Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Chicora.
