Shannon S. Stiteler

Shannon S. Stiteler, 43, born May 2, 1972, in Butler, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 15 in his home in Pasadena, Texas.

He was the son of Terry C. Sherman and Doris L. Fetzer/Hockenberry, both of Butler, and the husband of Kristie Perry of Pasadena, Texas.

He attended Butler High School, where he was a member of the JROTC.

Soon after, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served 22 years. During his military career served as an instructor on his ship during Operation Desert Storm. He then served time in Naples, Italy, as a military master at arms. Later in his career he moved to Mechanicsburg, Pa., where he served as Naval chief of police. From there he went to Norfolk, Va., where he served as chief of the brig.

His last mission in the U.S. Navy was assisting in a disaster relief operation in Haiti, after which he immediately retired.

After retirement, he worked as a police officer in Rapid City, S.D., and then moved on to work with veterans at AMVETS in Houston, Texas.

Shannon was preceded in death by his mother, Doris; his stepfather, Leonard Hockenberry; and other family.

He is survived by his father, Terry C. Sherman; his wife, Kristie Perry; his three sons, Victor, Adam and Jeremy Stiteler; his three daughters, Angel and Molly Stiteler and Kristen Perry; and his three sisters, Darlene and Tracy Stiteler and Valerie Thompson.

STITELER — There will be a memorial service honoring Shannon S. Stiteler, who died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at 10 a.m. Friday at the North Street Christian Church in Butler.For Shannon's family and friends, a luncheon will immediately following at the church.
